Lee Kingman Natti

(1919 - 2020)

Lee Kingman Natti was an artist, editor, and author, as well as a fixture of the Cape Ann artistic scene. As an editor for Houghton Mifflin Company, she worked with author Virgina Lee Burton on many of her notable children’s books. Kingman first visited Lanesville while taking an art class with George Demetrios, where she met Robert Natti, who was modeling for the class. The two would later marry, making Kingman the sister-in-law to John Manship and his sister Pauline Manship Natti, as well as Walker Hancock. Kingman bore two children, Susanna in 1948, and Peter in 1950. Susanna followed in her mother’s footsteps and is also a noted children’s book author and illustrator.

Kingman was one of the most prolific members of the Folly Cove Designers, working with the group for a span of twenty years.
