The daughter of Pauline Manship and Ilmari “Jimo” Natti, Isabel was both an artist and an activist. As a young woman, Isabel was a muse for many of Cape Ann’s artists. Known for her beauty as well as her fierce intelligence, Isabel graduated high school at the age of 16 and had a passion for science, conservation, and art. Isabel would often accompany her grandfather Paul on his travels, inspiring artists with her unique independence and voice. A true Lanesville native, Isabel grew up next to her grandparents’ Manship property and across the street from her Uncle Eino Natti, a member of the Folly Cove Designers (FCD). She apprenticed with FCD Sarah Elizabeth Holloran and carried on the tradition of this historic guild at her teacher’s shop, using the historic Acorn Press, in Rockport’s Whistlestop Mall for decades. Isabel’s block prints are an important part of the Cape Ann artistic legacy, and Manship’s history.
