Isabel McElwaine Manship

(1883 - 1974)

Married to Paul Manship on January 1, 1913, Isabel McIlwaine was truly a force to be reckoned with. Considered to be an integral part of her husband’s success, she was both brilliant and charming, and was recognized for her skills in hosting elegant parties for patrons, artists, and friends alike. An artist in her own right, Isabel studied painting with Childe Hassam and was a student of William Merritt Chase. She taught both art and art history before marrying Paul, and becoming the strong matriarch of the Manship family.
