Rag rug braiding workshop
April 10 - April 12
Braiding Connections for a temporary, public sculpture:
Rag rug braiding with fiber artist and sculptor Rebecca McGee Tuck
Fiber artist and sculptor Rebecca McGee Tuck will lead participants in a free two-hour, rag rug braiding workshop using traditional techniques, highlighting the Finnish rag rug weaving history on Cape Ann. In this collaborative, art-making workshop, participants will transform everyday textile materials into art. Participants work will be incorporated into Tuck’s forthcoming outdoor installation in summer 2025. Each participant is encouraged to bring a personal piece of fabric (clothing, pillowcase, etc.), which will be repurposed into material for the workshop. The individual rag rug braids will be joined together by McGee Tuck to form the larger, outdoor, public sculpture. The sculpture celebrates the magic of teamwork, weaving together pieces of fabric brought by each participant to create something truly unique and meaningful. This workshop is all about collaboration, sharing stories, and turning personal scraps into a shared work of art. Open to participants ages 11 and up. Children should be accompanied by an adult. Up to 20 participants. Offered in collaboration with the Lanesville Community Center. The exact timing will be announced in January 2025. Photo credit: Carla McElroy Photography
